Faces of the Uninsured
Over the past five years in
Pennsylvania, the cost of health insurance has gone up 75% while the
average wage has only gone up 13%. This escalating cost has meant that
adequate health care is becoming beyond the reach of many
Pennsylvanians who cannot afford the cost of premiums.
There are approximately 767,000 uninsured
adults in Pennsylvania, and nearly three out of four of them are
employed. Seventy percent of uninsured adults list the cost of premiums
as a main reason for not having insurance. They live in all regions of
Pennsylvania, work in all types of jobs, and lack the access to health
insurance that many of us enjoy.
