Health Care Reform In The Legislature:

Progress is continuing to be made to reform health care in Pennsylvania. Recently, state Rep. Todd Eachus announced a series of bills to reform small group insurance, reauthorize the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4), protect patients from costly medical errors, and improve access to affordable health insurance. From modernizing and expanding the adultBasic program to needed small group insurance market reforms, these are important steps to addressing health care and a good beginning to this legislative session. Some of the bills have already been passed by the House and are in the Senate awaiting consideration. Likewise, the Senate has passed similar bills and they await action in the House. For more information on these legislative proposals and information on how to contact your legislator to tell them you support these efforts, go here.

Making Health Care more Transparent:

When he rolled out his Rx for PA health care reform plan in January 2007, Governor Rendell called for efforts to increase transparency and educate consumers on the cost, outcomes and options available in health care. To start, he called for a website to help people find the best prices on pharmaceuticals. A few weeks ago the Commonwealth launched PaRxPricefinder.com to help consumers compare prescription drug prices. So far the website has received more than 80,000 page views.

There are hundreds of agencies and organizations that collect, analyze and make all kinds of health care data available – data that makes health care more transparent for consumers. We’ve pulled together a list of some we thought did the best job and were the most useful and put them all in one place.
